THE NIGHTHAWK JACKET IS OUR NEWEST FLAGSHIP PIECE, INSPIRED BY THE STRIATED SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA MOUNTAINS.
NIGHTHAWK IS MARBLED IN A PALETTE OF GOLDS AND BONE, MIMICKING ROCK FORMATIONS IN DEATH VALLEY. EVERY ELEMENT OF THE JACKET, INCLUDING ITS POCKET BINDINGS AND LINING, IS MARBLED USING THE SAME METHOD.
ABOUT THE MARBLING PROCESS
IN MARBLING, PIGMENT IS CAREFULLY DROPPED ON THE SURFACE OF A THICKENED MEDIUM AND MANIPULATED BY HAND TO PRODUCE INTRICATE ORGANIC EFFECTS.
MARBLING IS AN ART FORM HISTORICALLY APPLIED TO PAPER AND SILK. SOME STYLES, SUCH AS TURKISH EBRU MARBLING, PRODUCE ELABORATE, TIGHTLY CONTROLLED RESULTS, EVEN SPECIFIC ILLUSTRATIONS. OTHER FORMS, LIKE JAPANESE SUMINAGASHI, ARE LOOSER AND MORE NATURALISTIC, FORMING PATTERNS LIKE WOOD GRAIN AND CREAM SWIRLED INTO COFFEE. ACROSS ALL TRADITIONS, MARBLING IS AN EXQUISITE TECHNIQUE THAT YIELDS ASTONISHING RESULTS.
FOR THE NIGHTHAWK JACKET, WE ADAPTED THE MARBLING PROCESS FOR APPLICATION ON LEATHER. WE SPENT MONTHS DEVELOPING A BALANCE OF MEDIUM AND PAINT CAPABLE OF BONDING TO the beautiful, untreated cow leather used here. WE DEVELOPED GOLD, SILVER, PLATINUM, BONE, WHITE, AND BLACK PIGMENTS THAT REMAIN FLEXIBLE AND SOFT ONCE APPLIED TO THE LEATHER HIDE.
BY DEFINITION, MARBLING IS A COUTURE PROCESS, IN THAT IT MUST BE DONE BY HAND AND CANNOT BE MACHINED. EACH PATTERN PIECE IS PRINTED, SEALED, AND CONDITIONED INDIVIDUALLY.
EVERY JACKET REQUIRES MORE THAN SIXTY HOURS TO MARBLE.
THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE FLAT PRINT AND THE 3-DIMENSIONAL FINISHED JACKET IS TOTALLY UNPREDICTABLE.
NO PRINT could EVER BE REPLICATED.
